ITAD is not the same job as IT recycling

IT asset disposition is inventory, sanitisation, residual-value, then recycling of the remainder. IT recycling is a waste route. UK pages collapse the two because “recycle” ranks. RecyclicTech will not. A WEEE transfer note proves metal moved. A per-serial NIST SP 800-88 certificate proves the data is gone. You usually need both. You never need a skip labelled ITAD.

What to take from this page

  • ITAD starts with serials and data. Recycling starts with waste.
  • Reuse and remarketing sit between those two, when authorised.
  • A recycling ticket is not a destruction certificate.
  • RecyclicTech prints both lines. It does not sell one as the other.

The order RecyclicTech actually runs

Identify. Isolate data-bearing media. Sanitize or destroy. Test what still has a market. WEEE-route the rest. Reverse that order and you have a scrap dealer with a GDPR PDF.

Why the confusion is expensive

If the lot is treated as mixed WEEE on day one, residual value is gone and the data trail is already a skip receipt. RecyclicTech will decline a job that is only a skip, rather than dress it as ITAD.

Questions

Straight answers.

What is the difference between ITAD and IT recycling?+

ITAD is the full disposition: data, value, then waste. Recycling is the waste step. RecyclicTech does both, in that order.

Can we just recycle everything?+

You can instruct no-reuse. That is Destroy plus WEEE, still certified per serial. It is not a cheaper skip.

Is RecyclicTech a recycler?+

Recycling is one destination. The published product is B2B ITAD. Do not collapse the two on a tender.

Does WEEE compliance equal ITAD?+

No. WEEE is the waste trail. UK GDPR is the data trail. RecyclicTech returns both.
