Laptop and office-IT disposal under UK GDPR

A closed laptop on a UK desk is still a controller problem. BitLocker “just delete the key” is not a certificate. RecyclicTech treats corporate laptop estates the same way as colo drives: inventory, NIST SP 800-88 per serial, chain of custody, WEEE papers for what has no residual value. Individuals and schools do not use this booking. They use /donate/ and pay the courier.

What a UK office lot actually is

Laptops, desktops, docks, monitors, a cupboard of spare SSDs. The SSDs are the job. RecyclicTech will not certify a pallet because a manager formatted the C: drive.

What we refuse to collect on this form

A teacher’s home PC, a charity shop bag, a mixed WEEE bin from a high street. Those are either /donate/ or a quoted waste job. Mixing them into a corporate ITAD file would fake the chain.

Is BitLocker enough?+

Not as a destruction certificate. RecyclicTech will not print “key deleted” as NIST SP 800-88.

Can we send staff laptops from home?+

Only as an organisational lot with a chain. Random parcels from home addresses are /donate/.

Do monitors need destruction certificates?+

Only if they hold residual storage. Most do not. They still need WEEE papers. RecyclicTech does not invent a drive serial for a panel.

Will you buy a used laptop estate?+

Residual value is assessed after sanitisation. No purchase offer before the serials are seen.
