What happens to old servers after a UK data-centre decommission?

Old servers do not become scrap the moment the hall goes dark. In a UK colo cage or an on-prem room they are still UK GDPR assets. RecyclicTech inventories the lot, pulls data-bearing drives into a labelled stream, sanitises or destroys each serial, then tests what still has a market. Only then does WEEE-compatible recycling take the remainder. That is not a skip. Processing after collection is in Rădăuți — declared on the file.

What to take from this page

  • Servers are recovered as assets first. Recycling is the last route.
  • Drives leave the chassis before residual value is discussed.
  • Each data-bearing serial gets a NIST SP 800-88 line.
  • Saleable kit is tested. The rest is WEEE-routed with duty-of-care papers.
  • The depot is Rădăuți, not a London PO box.

The sequence that actually runs

Planning, asset identification, drive isolation, collection, sanitisation or destruction, testing, remarketing where authorised, then WEEE for what has no residual value. RecyclicTech does not reverse that order to make a scrap quote look faster.

  1. Inventory while neighbours stay live.
  2. Pull drives. Label caddies with the serial they belong to.
  3. Sealed freight to Rădăuți.
  4. NIST SP 800-88 per serial. Certificate back.
  5. Test and grade. Rebate only after that, never before.

What we will not tell you happened

That the kit was shredded on a UK pad we do not operate. That Dell, HPE or Lenovo authorised the job. That every chassis was recycled when some of it was sold. The file names the route per serial.

Questions

Straight answers.

Can companies sell old servers in the UK?+

Yes, after sanitisation is recorded. RecyclicTech remarkets only with written authorisation. Residual value can return as a rebate. No figure is promised before inventory.

What happens to servers that cannot be reused?+

WEEE-compatible recycling with duty-of-care papers on the same file as the destruction certificates.

Do you recycle Dell or HPE servers?+

We recover retired Dell, HPE and Lenovo enterprise hardware. That is not an authorised partnership. Do not read a logo on a chassis as a vendor programme.

How long does a hall take?+

A single cage can be a day on the floor. A full hall is scoped in the assessment — labour, windows, neighbours. We do not publish a fake “48-hour UK-wide” promise.
